Danny Higginbotham has declared that he is ready to fight for his place at Sunderland.
Roy Keane met with the club's hierarchy at the weekend to finalise his transfer plans for January.
The Black Cats have conceded twice as many goals as they have scored this season and Higginbotham expects reinforcements in the New Year.
The defender is happy for Keane to strengthen and accepts that the main focus must be Premier League survival.
"That's life," Higginbotham told the
Daily Express. "The most important thing is to stay in the Premier League.
"As a team, if good players come in and they can enhance the side and make it stronger, that's good.
"What can you say about the manager? He's been there and done it and he can identify players."
Belief
A 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at the weekend was enough to lift Sunderland out of the relegation zone, and Higginbotham believes it is important to start looking up rather than down.
He explained: "There are a lot of teams down there. You have to have belief in yourself.
"It shows how tight it is because you can quickly go up the table with a couple of wins.
"The minute you start questioning whether you are good enough, you may as well throw the towel in.
"We have played all the top teams and I don't think we've been outclassed."
