Rams boss pleased with performance against Newcastle

Derby County boss Paul Jewell was encouraged by his side's display after they picked up a 2-2 draw at Newcastle. The Rams have won just one Premier League game this season, but came within minutes of claiming an invaluable success at St James' Park. However, Mark Viduka struck on 87 minutes to ensure that both sides left with a point apiece. Jewell admits that he was disappointed his men did not hold on for the win, but believes they are improving with every game.

Belief

"You are always disappointed when you lose a goal so late in the game - particularly such a poor goal as well," he said on Sky Sports News. "The two goals we conceded were really poor defending, but I think we scored two good goals. "What we've been trying to do since we got here is instil some belief in them. "I'm a realist. We still have an awful lot to do, but it's given me plenty to work on. There has been improvement in us gradually and I have seen encouraging signs."
New faces
Jewell also confirmed that he will be looking to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window. "I'm hoping to bring in some faces. The squad needs help, no doubt about that. The players have given me everything they have got, but we want to add to that," he concluded.
