Midfielder to stay at Molineux until the end of the season

Wolves have extended the loan of Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson until the end of the season. The 20-year-old has impressed during his time at Molineux where he has made eight starts and scored once. Gibson joined Wolves in October as United manager Sir Alex Ferguson looked to increase the youngster's first-team experience and he was expected to return to Old Trafford in the New Year. However, Wolves boss Mick McCarthy previously expressed an interest in retaining the Republic of Ireland international as cover for Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana who leaves for the African Cup of Nations in January. And McCarthy has now revealed that he has come to an agreement with Ferguson to allow Gibson to stay with the Championship outfit until the end of the campaign. "Sir Alex has agreed that Darron can stay and we are grateful to Manchester United for that," McCarthy told Wolves' official website. "Darron's a good footballer and has done well since he came here."
