Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven suffered a surprise away defeat to FC Groningen to cut the gap at the top of the table to two points.
PSV had taken the lead at the Stadion Euroborg through Eduardo Alcides, but Rasmus Lindgren and Marcus Berg then secured the comeback for
Groningen.
Alcides pounced after 18 minutes to open the scoring for PSV and the visitors then looked comfortable.
However, Lindgren then restored parity on 61 minutes before Berg netted with 14 minutes remaining to allow Groningen to move up to fourth.
Feyenoord closed the gap as they secured a vital home victory over
Sparta Rotterdam.
A brace from Roy Makaay handed Feyenoord the points at the De Kuip Stadium as Sparta were unable to respond.
Feyenoord wasted little time in taking the lead as Makay pounced after four minutes.
Makay then added his second and sealed the win on 74 minutes as he hit home to leave Sparta goalkeeper Sander Westerveld helpless.
Elsewhere,
VVV Venlo came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 away draw with
NEC Nijmegen.
NEC found themselves in front after 12 minutes at De Goffert stadium when Tim Janssen hit the back of the net.
Janssen then doubled his side's advantage in the 55th minute and the win looked assured.
However, VVV then introduced Sandro Calabro and Leon Kantelberg and the substitutions proved to be the turning point of the match.
First Kanelberg (70) and then Calabro (83) scored to earn their side a share of the spoils.
The game between
De Graafschap and
AZ Alkmaar was postponed because the pitch was deemed unplayable.
