Former Gunner delighted with Fratton Park stalemate
Sol Campbell was full of praise for his Portsmouth team-mates after they ground out an impressive point against Arsenal.
The former Arsenal favourite was outstanding at the heart of Portsmouth's defence as he marshalled his side to a 0-0 stalemate.
A disappointing Boxing Day for Arsene Wenger's side saw them usurped by Manchester United at the Premier League summit, after earlier in the day Sir Alex Ferguson's side beat Sunderland 4-0.
But at the final whistle at Fratton Park, Campbell was keen to talk up his own side's achievement.
Battle hardened
"We had to battle hard because Arsenal are a great side," England defender Campbell told
Sky Sports.
"They had a couple of chances at the end but it was a great shift by the lads.
"We wanted to get in their faces, put them under pressure and not let them settle on the ball. If you let them pass they will pass you to death.
"We had a couple of chances of our own but it was not to be. Benjani had a chance but their keeper came out quickly. It was a shame but that is the way it goes sometimes."
