Johnson happy with Vasko efforts

Owen Coyle aims to boost Burnley's firepower in the New Year, while Gary Johnson hailed match-winner Tamas Vasko. Clarets boss Coyle is still awaiting his first home win in charge and saw Ade Akinbiyi twice hit the woodwork against City. Coyle admits his side had enough chances to win the match and it is something he will look to rectify when the transfer window opens. "We are just not being clinical," Coyle said. "We had seven or eight real goal-scoring opportunities, but it's all about composure and sometimes a bit of luck. But you have to stay strong, I would be more worried if we weren't creating chances.

Bare bones

"If the players continue to give that effort and keep persevering they will get their reward. We have paid a heavy price for switching off at a set play. "We are down to the bare bones but we will get one or two players in during January to freshen things up." Vasko marked his first appearance in almost three months with the only goal and the on-loan Hungarian defender drew praise from his manager. Johnson said: "I watched a video of him playing and he beat up a centre-forward for 90 minutes. "He has good feet, he's a big lad and we invited him across. He has been waiting for his opportunity. Tamas is decent in the opponents' box and he took his chance well."
Massive
Johnson added: "It was a great team performance. We needed to be a bit more solid and did not want to be too open. "We started brightly and created opportunities. It is always good when the manager comes up with new tactics and the boys listen. "Every game in the second half of the season is massive. We want to play at the top end of the table, but we are doing it a game at a time. "The boys are enjoying the Championship and we mustn't think too far ahead of ourselves - all we want to do is focus on the next game because they are all different scenarios."
