Reading defender Ibrahima Sonko hopes his spell away from the club at the African Cup of Nations will allow him to recapture top form.
The centre-back has struggled this season after being sidelined for nine months with a knee injury.
His miserable run turned even worse when he was sent off just three minutes into the defeat by Portsmouth on New Year's Day.
Sluggish
Now he is due to join up with the Senegal squad for the African Cup of Nations in Ghana and has vowed to return a better player after admitting feeling sluggish of late.
He said: "It has been a bad time for me and I will have to switch on again when I am back from Africa.
"I need a break as I have given too many points away.
"Hopefully the lads can handle things when I am away and I will start afresh when I am back.
"It will be a great break for me to go away. I feel a bit slow."
