Black Cats move in for Rovers midfielder
Blackburn boss Mark Hughes confirmed Sunderland are in the running to sign midfielder Robbie Savage.
Hughes told
Sky Sports that Rovers have received a number of enquiries for the former Welsh international midfielder although none have matched the club's valuation.
Savage was not involved in Rovers' 1-0 win over the Black Cats and could soon be on his way out of Ewood Park.
Speaking after the victory over Roy Keane's men, Hughes said: "We have received a number of enquiries about Robbie Savage but our valuation has not been met.
"Sunderland's interest has been the most definite and we'll know something more in the next few days."
The Blackburn boss admitted his side had been somewhat fortunate to beat their plucky visitors on a bitterly cold Lancashire evening.
Rovers had keeper Brad Friedel to thank after he saved Dean Whitehead's weak penalty - his second stop in as many games. Minutes later, Benni McCarthy scored from the spot at the other end to give the home side a narrow win.
Constructive
"Brad's made an impact," said Hughes. "For me they were two clear penalties; we converted ours and they missed theirs. We're indebted to Brad for his save once again.
"It was difficult to get the ball down and play constructive football. Thankfully we got our noses in front and saw the game out.
"Sunderland will feel aggrieved they got nothing out of the match. They worked extremely hard."
The one down side for Rovers was the loss of striker Roque Santa Cruz who did not reappear for the second half.
Hughes added: "Roque Santa Cruz went off with a groin problem but hopefully it will not be too serious. He was not going to play on Saturday (in the FA Cup) anyway so the break should do him good."
