McLeish looking at keeping Honduran midfielder

Birmingham are contemplating extending on-loan midfielder Wilson Palacios' stay at St Andrews. Off-field problems have restricted the Honduras international to just seven Premier League appearances, but he has impressed when given his chance and manager Alex McLeish is willing to give him more time to prove himself. Previous Blues boss Steve Bruce was close to making the move from Olimpia permanent but the kidnapping of Palacios' younger brother in October forced him to return home and as such lose his place in the side. He is now back in first-team contention despite the issue involving his brother not yet being resolved and he did come off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on New Year's Day. Birmingham will now look into the possibility of keeping Palacios at the club, but may face competition from Wigan where Bruce is also believed to be keen on linking up with the player once more.
