United boss delighted with how season has started

Sir Alex Ferguson has declared himself to be more than content with how his Manchester United side have performed thus far this season. With United currently second to Arsenal in the Premier League table and readying themselves for a UEFA Champions League tilt, their Scottish tactician is confident a successful campaign is in the offing. Many predict United's seasoned savvy could eventually tell in a title race that pits them against a talented but inexperienced Arsenal, but Ferguson's focus is as much on European matters as it is on domestic duties.

"Right at this point, I am very pleased with how the campaign is going," said Ferguson. "We have lost a couple of games but our consistency overall has been very good. "We are with the leaders in the league and we are through to the knockout stage of the Champions League and ready for some exciting games. "I am looking for success in Europe as well as at home. We have the players and back-up to do it."
Expectations exceeded
New signings Anderson, Carlos Tevez, Nani and Owen Hargreaves have all played their part, albeit to varying degrees, so it is from an optimistic mindset the Ferguson considers United's 2008 prospects. "The new players have made the kind of impact we were not entitled to expect so soon," added Ferguson. "These boys clearly want to win things at Manchester United and I think they will. They are young and hungry."
