Bruce moves for Honduras midfielder
Wilson Palacios is set to become Steve Bruce's first signing of the January transfer window.
The Honduras international midfielder will follow Bruce's path to Wigan from Birmingham and is poised to agree a three-and-a-half-year deal at The JJB Stadium, subject to a medical and international clearance.
Palacios was on a six-month loan at St Andrews from Olimpia in his home country and, although Blues were keen to extend his stay, Bruce has moved swiftly to strike a permanent deal, reported to be worth around £1million.
The midfielder, who has been capped 42 times by his country, made just four Premier League starts for the Midlands outfit.
His time with Birmingham was hit by the kidnapping of his younger brother Edwin in Honduras in November, with negotiations still ongoing to secure his release.
But Palacios made enough of an impression on the Latics manager, who left St Andrews in late November, to secure a deal as Bruce aims to keep the club in the top flight.
Meanwhile, Palacios' Olimpia team-mate, left-back Maynor Figueroa, remains on trial with the Premier League club and could agree a permanent deal.
