Ambitious teenager wants first-team football at Pompey

Portsmouth's new signing Danijel Subotik has revealed he wants to break into the first team 'as quickly as possible'. The 18-year-old Swiss striker has already tasted reserve team football for Pompey after becoming boss Harry Redknapp's first signing of the January transfer window. He played 80 minutes of the goal-less draw against Chelsea on Tuesday - an experience which has only whetted his appetite for first-team football. The teenager signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Pompey after joining for an undisclosed compensation fee from Basle, after training with the club's first-team for the last few weeks.

Awesome

Speaking of his hopes, Subotik told the club's official website: "It was great to play for the reserves the other night - absolutely awesome. "Hopefully I will soon get the chance to play for the first team. I'm here to play and I want to play as quickly as possible. "I want to progress here and become a better player. I want to take my chance. I should get better the more and more games I play." Subotik believes English football is the best football in the world adding: "I am looking forward to playing in some big games at some top grounds. I will give my best and hopefully get the chance to play in these games." He added that he jumped at the chance top join Pompey once he knew they were interested.
Opportunity
"When I found out that I had the chance to come here I took it straight away. My agent told me that I had the opportunity to come to Portsmouth and take part in training so they could have a look at me. "I knew that I needed to make an impression but from the moment I arrived I knew I wanted to stay. "There are a lot of good players here that I can learn from like Sol Campbell, Sylvain Distin, David James and Niko Kranjcar. "I can learn something from all the players. When you look at the players there are here, it is not a surprise to see them doing so well."
