Defender signs new two-and-a-half year deal

Millwall defender Zak Whitbread has pledged his future to the club by signing a contract extension until 2010. The American's deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but he has opted to stay with the League One side. He joined the Lions from Liverpool in the summer of 2006, having spent a spell on loan at the Den, and had no qualms in prolonging his time with Kenny Jackett's side. "I'm delighted to commit myself to Millwall for the next two-and-a-half years," Whitbread told the club's official website.

Ups and downs

"I've had a few ups and downs since I first arrived here on loan from Liverpool and injuries have been a big factor in that. "But I've been given a chance to show what I can do in recent weeks and touch wood things have been going well. "I really get the feeling that, after a difficult period for the club, we're starting to move in the right direction under Kenny Jackett."
