Independiente have insisted they know nothing about reports linking Nicolas Mazzola with a move to West Ham.

Argentine starlet linked with West Ham move

Independiente have insisted they know nothing about Nicolas Mazzola travelling to England to train with West Ham. Alan Curbishley recently revealed that the Argentine starlet had linked up with The Hammers but maintained that any interest in the player would be for the long term. "He is a young boy we have had training with us," said Curbishley. "He is only a 17-year-old. He is nothing for the first team at the moment." However, Independiente secretary of sport Leandro Battafarano has stressed that Mazzola is currently in training in Argentina. "As far as we are concerned, we have not been told about Mazzola going to England," he said. "He is having pre-season training with the first team in Mar del Plata now."

Several English offers

Mazzola has been linked with various European teams since he produced a series of impressive performances at the under-17 World Cup last year. Battafarano accepts that there is interest from England but has warned potential suitors that Independiente have no intention of letting Mazzola go. "We haven't set a transfer fee because we are not planning to sell him anywhere. We want to enjoy his skills in the first team here," he said. "I cannot say now whether there was an official West Ham offer, but he is a very good player and a lot of teams have made different offers. "Several of them were English clubs, and there was not just one."
