Forward has not played enough for Australia recently

Derby must appeal for a work permit if they are to successfully bring Mile Sterjovski to the club. The Australian forward, who is currently with Turkish side Genclerbirligi, has not played enough games for his country in recent times to automatically qualify for the necessary paperwork. Sterjovski only arrived in Turkey at the start of the season but he has stated his desire to leave the country for personal reasons and the Rams are hopeful that he will be granted permission to move to Pride Park.

Clearance needed

"Mile is over here and he is a good player who would improve us but bureaucracy is getting in the way," Rams boss Paul Jewell told the club's official website. "He has to go and apply for a work permit. We think he is worth one and the game he missed for Australia was when they made the decision not to play any Europe-based players. "But the people who make the decisions won't give us clearance so we have got to appeal." Jewell has already brought in five players during the transfer window but is still hopeful of enticing more new faces to the club, beginning with Rangers keeper Roy Carroll.
Strengthening squad
"Rangers wouldn't release him until they signed a new keeper themselves so hopefully we can resurrect this on Monday," he said. "Like every manager I want to keep strengthening the squad but we can't wave a magic wand. "There is a habit at this club of losing matches. We are trying as hard as we can to get out of it and the supporters deserve better than what they are seeing. "I am aware of that as much as anyone else and we will keep trying to improve the squad between now and the end of the window."
