Portuguese defender off to Oakwell for a month

West Brom have allowed Miguel Tininho to join Championship rivals Barnsley on a month's loan. The defender only arrived at the Hawthorns for £230,000 from Beira Mar in July 2007 but after making his debut on the first day of the season he has not featured for the Baggies in the league since. The Mozambique-born, Portuguese national will initially move to Oakwell for a month and will hope to help push the Tykes towards the play-off race. West Brom boss Tony Mowbray is hoping that the deal will allow Tininho to play regular first-team football and put him in a better position to challenge Paul Robinson for the left-back spot on his return to the club.

Acclimatise

"Tininho's opportunities have been restricted by Robbo's form," Mowbray told the club's official website. "He's joining Barnsley to hopefully get some minutes on the pitch and acclimatise to this league."
