Atletico Madrid midfielder Maniche has arrived at Internazionale to undergo a medical and is expected to complete his transfer on Tuesday.
The Portuguese player has been linked with Inter for some time despite denials from the Spanish club that a deal was on the cards.
It is understood that he will initially join Inter on a six-month loan, with the option of a permanent switch in the summer.
The Serie A leaders have swooped for Maniche after losing Walter Samuel and Olivier Dacourt to injury.
Neither are likely to play again this season, while Patrick Vieira is also struggling to return to action following a calf problem.
Inter have also been credited with an interest in Liverpool's Mohamed Sissoko.
