Carlisle United have snapped up Evan Horwood from Sheffield United on a free transfer.
Horwood has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at Brunton Park and had been on loan at Gretna this season.
The defender is eager to play for the promotion hopefuls and is ready for the challenge of breaking into the Carlisle team.
"I'm looking forward to it," Horwood told the club's official website. "The setup looks really good.
"I've come to a place which is up at the top and used to winning, so I'm going to have to get my head down and give it my best shot if I want to get in to the team."
Ability
Cumbrians boss John Ward felt the chance to sign the 21-year-old was an opportunity he could not afford to pass up.
Ward said: "Evan has been playing regularly in the Scottish Premiership. We've received some very good reports about him, both from our scouts who have watched him six times, and from people who have either played against him, with him, or from those who have worked with him.
"We felt that it was an opportunity too good to miss. He's on a free transfer, we've signed him on a two-and-a-half year deal, and we are hopeful that we will get to see the ability that we think is in there."
