Head of consortium hails 'monumental moment' for Hatters
Nick Owen has expressed his delight at helping secure Luton Town's future.
Owen is head of a consortium, Luton Town Football Club 2020 Ltd, that have been given exclusive rights to purchase the club.
The consortium provided the loan that has helped secure the club's short-term future, while also putting themselves in pole position to complete a takeover.
Owen has revealed the cost of the bid, which stands at around £10million, and is very confident of striking a deal with administrators, which would need to be ratified by The FA and Football League.
Luton were rolled over 5-0 by Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday, although Owen is only looking at the positives in what he is calling a 'monumental moment' in the club's history.
Very happy
"I'm a very happy man, despite being hammered by Liverpool," he told
Sky Sports News. "That wasn't the issue to be honest.
"The issue was getting a fantastic amount of money into the club from a big crowd and television exposure on
Sky.
"More importantly the long-term future of the club has been secured and it's now in the hands of Luton Town fans. People who have supported the club their whole lives and have been successful in business.
"One way or another it's a really exciting time and I'm just thrilled just to be a little bit part of it.
"The deal's worth around £10million, which involves buying the business. It involves paying off creditors and the debts in general and sorting out paying players' wages.
Preferred bidders
"One way or another we're finding around £10million to get in there and we've got preferred bidders status.
"In the next month or two The FA and Football League have to look at everything. We have to negotiate with the administrator and the finer points of paying off creditors and so on, and doing due diligence to make sure we're going into something with our eyes open.
"An enormous amount of work has gone into this. The three friends of mine who are lifetime Luton fans have worked so hard to get us this far. It's a monumental moment in the history of Luton Town Football Club."
