Honduras international impresses on trial
Honduras international Maynor Figueroa is set to join Wigan on a short-term contract.
The defender has been on trial with The Latics in recent weeks and has impressed Steve Bruce sufficiently to be offered a deal.
Figueroa, who is currently registered with Olimpia in his homeland, has had to leave England and travel to Holland to obtain a work permit.
Bruce does not expect there to be any problems, and is excited to be bringing in the left-back.
"We have got Maynor until the end of the season," Bruce told
Wigan Today.
"It's difficult for a player from Honduras to make an impact in a short trial, but he has done very well and has been desperate to earn a contract."
Wigan are also understood to be closing in on a deal for Erik Edman from Rennes.
The Swede has rejected an extension to his contract and Rennes have admitted they are ready to sell him before the transfer window closes.
