Kevin Keegan sensationally returned to Newcastle for his second stint as manager and admitted: "It's nice to be home."
Keegan, who has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal, arrived at St James' Park shortly after kick-off for the FA Cup third round replay against Stoke City, accompanied by club owner Mike Ashley and chairman Chris Mort.
The Magpies have been searching for a manager for the past week following the departure of Sam Allardyce after just 24 games at the helm.
An initial approach for Harry Redknapp failed when the Portsmouth boss elected to remain at Fratton Park, at which point the Magpies decided to target Keegan.
The former England, Fulham and Manchester City boss, who has been out of the game since leaving Eastlands in 2005, is regarded as a legend on Tyneside.
His appointment was confirmed by the club on Wednesday afternoon, which sparked a frenzy of activity as fans rushed to buy tickets for the game, with Keegan arriving soon afterwards.

And as he arrived at St James', Keegan told
Sky Sports News: "It's nice to be home. I'm delighted to be back home."
Magpies chairman Mort admitted he thought they might not have been able to persuade Keegan to return to football, but was delighted with the appointment.
He admitted: "It's a process to go through, but we've definitely got the right man in the end, and we're delighted.
"We're absolutely thrilled. We didn't think we'd be able to get Kevin back to the club. He's absolutely the right man for the club and we're delighted."
