Berlusconi puts faith in striker

Milan president Silvio Berlusconi insists he will not sanction Alberto Gilardino's sale in the summer. The misfiring striker has come in for criticism in the Italian media after struggling to find his best form this season. He missed a string of chances against Catania in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night as Milan crashed out of the competition. Gilardino's form has prompted suggestions that Milan will look to offload the Italy international at the end of the season. But Rossoneri supremo Berlusconi has no plans to ship out the former Parma forward come the summer. "Selling Alberto Gilardino?" queried Berlusconi in the Italian media. "Never. "You have not got to follow what's in the papers." Gilardino faces a further battle for a place in Carlo Ancelotti's side following the recent arrival of Brazilian sensation Alexandre Pato.
