Malpas unveils first new signings

Swindon Town have made a double swoop on Championship side Watford by signing winger Anthony McNamee and striker Moses Ashikodi. McNamee, 23, has joined the League One outfit for an undisclosed fee, while 20-year-old Ashikodi has signed on loan for the rest of the season. The pair could feature when the Robins face Nottingham Forest at home on Saturday, which will be new manager Maurice Malpas's first game in charge. The former Motherwell manager has earmarked a number of players now that his new club can trade once again, after the buy-out at the County Ground by a consortium headed by Andrew Fitton.

Get moving

He told skysports.com: "Now that the transfer embargo is lifted we can get moving. It's been discussed a lot in the last 10 days and we have a list of five players we want to sign. "Now it's a case of seeing who we can get in. "Hopefully we can get two or three in quickly and that will help freshen it up. It is a priority. "The squad is good, but with suspensions and the threat of injuries, we need to know we have the cover to keep us going throughout the season." Malpas will have cash at his disposal, but will not overspend on token signings.
Continual rise
He added: "There's money available for League One players. We won't be signing big names, that's clear. "We have a structure so we'll be taking it nice and slowly, a continual rise. We won't simply throw money away. "There's no pot of gold because it doesn't work to throw money away; we have to try and generate money ourselves and go from there."
