Latics give Moyes' men physical test

Andy Johnson admitted Everton were made to work hard for their 2-1 victory over Wigan at the JJB Stadium. Johnson capitalised on an horrendous error from Wigan defender Titus Bramble to open the scoring with a cool finish in the 39th minute. David Moyes' men added a second three minutes later as Wigan failed to clear a corner, with the loose ball finding Joleon Lescott who fired home at the far post. Phil Jagielka's own goal from Jason Koumas' free-kick gave Wigan hope but the visitors held on for a win which takes them up to fourth in the Premier League.

Sitting pretty

"Wigan are a good team and this is a hard place to come and get a result," Johnson told Sky Sports 1. "Physically this is one of the hardest games we'll play but the important thing is that we got the three points and we're sitting pretty in the league. "For the goal I just chased it down and when the chance came I managed to put it away." Lescott picked up the man of the match award for his performance after scoring his seventh goal of the season.
Massive
The result sees the Blues move ahead of city rivals Liverpool in the table but Lescott is focused on their next game against Chelsea in the Carling Cup semi-final second leg. "We knew it is was going to be tough game," Lescott said. "Next we've got Chelsea a home and that is a massive game for us. "I was pleased to score and it is vital this season that we don't just rely on Andrew and we all chip in with goals where we can."
