Zaragoza boss departs after just eight days in charge

Ander Garitano has quit as Real Zaragoza coach after just two games in charge. The former Zaragoza player has cited personal reasons for lasting just eight days at the helm of the Romareda outfit. The 38-year-old was reportedly unhappy the club blocked a move to offload Andres D'Alessandro during the transfer window. Garitano oversaw the club's King's Cup exit to Racing Santander before securing a 3-1 Liga win over Real Murcia.

Personal reasons

"My decision, however surprising it might appear is due exclusively to personal reasons," he said at a conference. "Given the state of mind I am in right now I would have damaged the team and the club if I had carried on and I want to go now given that the team is in the middle of the table. "I don't feel strong enough to face up to this challenge. I prefer another person to take over because the team needs someone who is 100 per cent."
