Striker to stay, rather than move out on loan

Bayern Munich have now ruled out the prospect of Lukas Podolski leaving the club on loan in January. Earlier this week, Bayern's general manager Uli Hoeness suggested the club could allow Podolski to head out on loan for the second half of the season. The striker is fearing for his place in Germany's Euro 2008 plans and has been linked with Premier League side Manchester City. But Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says that, following talks with Podolski, there will be no temporary deal before the close of the transfer window. "I had a very good conversation with Lukas on this issue and I have told him that he can not leave Bayern because we need him for the future," said Rummenigge, chairman of the executive board.

Risk too great

Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer also believes it will be beneficial for Podolski to stay and battle Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni for a starting role. Beckenbauer told Bild: "Bayern are still in three competitions - the Bundesliga, the Uefa Cup and the DFB Cup. "The risk to let a striker go seems too great to me. For his personal development, Bayern is also better. "He came to us very young and is still in the learning phase. The competition with Klose and Toni makes him more mature."
