Former Fulham boss could move to St Mary's
Chris Coleman could be interested in replacing George Burley as Southampton manager, according to his agent.
Coleman recently left his role as boss of Spanish side Real Sociedad and his agent, former Crystal Palace manager Alan Smith, has indicated that he would be interested in taking over at St Mary's.
The Scottish Football Association has agreed compensation with the Saints as they look to name Burley the new Scotland manager and Smith has indicated that Coleman, who enjoyed four years in charge of Fulham, could be interested in succeeding the Scot on the South Coast.
"I'm sure he would be interested," Smith told
Sky Sports News.
Under-achieved
"It's a good club and has a fantastic new stadium now. Probably through nobody's fault the club has under-achieved a little bit.
"For someone like Chris with that enthusiasm and that passion and freshness and with what he has learned in Spain it could be a good job.
"But the truth of the matter is that there will be other people who are mentioned that will be out there looking for work."
And Smith has stated that he will be making enquiries on behalf of Coleman, who is currently in Spain, at Southampton.
Respect
"Yes," said Smith when asked if he would contact the Saints. "Because that is what a management company is there for.
"Chris is in Spain and my colleagues and I have got to be out there looking for jobs for Chris wherever they become vacant.
"In fairness to George Burley he has only just settled the compensation with Southampton and there is a bit of respect. Southampton aren't going to appoint somebody immediately.
"But before the end of this week I'm sure we will have touched base. See what the job is and see what they are looking for and see whether someone like Chris would fit that role."
