Boro defender desperate to make Germany squad

Middlesbrough defender Robert Huth concedes time is running out for him to prove himself to Germany coach Joachim Low ahead of Euro 2008. The imposing central defender looks to have put an injury nightmare behind him having impressed for Boro in the past few weeks, but he is well aware that Low will need some convincing. An ankle injury saw the 23-year-old stopper sidelined for the best part of 18 months; in a turn of events that left him seriously considering his future. Since returning to Boro's first team at the end of the year Huth has not looked back, and now he has set his heart on winning a place in Low's squad for Austria and Switzerland.

Clock ticking

"I am concerned that time is running out to prove myself," said Huth. "You only need to look at the calendar to see how few games we have left. "After every injury set-back, the games were ticked off, one by one. "Now the friendly games against Austria and Switzerland are my only remaining hopes."
Grim time
Huth admits that the outlook looked bleak for him at various stages of his rehabilitation. "I had some pretty bad thoughts, because things weren't moving forward," he continued. "I had the same pain in the same foot, over and over again and things were uncertain for weeks on end."
