Samaras set for SPL switch

Georgios Samaras would be 'happy' to have the opportunity to play regularly as he is poised to join Celtic.

City striker could head to Scotland on loan

Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras would be 'happy' to have the opportunity to play regularly as he is lined up for a move to Celtic. Samaras appears likely to follow the lead of Rolando Bianchi in leaving City after the Italian joined Lazio last week on loan with a view to a permanent deal. Greece international Samaras has made just five Premier League appearances this season and has struggled to make an impact at City since a £6million move from Heerenveen two years ago. Birmingham City recently pulled the plug on a proposed deal, but he could now head to the SPL with Celtic and Rangers holding an interest. But while Samaras admits he would be tempted by a move to Ibrox, reports suggest he will be joining Old Firm rivals Celtic before the close of the transfer window.

Very interesting

He told the Daily Record: "At this moment I need to find somewhere to play football. I have the European Championship this summer and I need to play games before then. "I would be happy to go to Scotland. I would not have any problem with leaving the Premiership - playing football is the main thing for me. "I would have the chance of European football with Rangers and that is also very interesting. But it would be a loan. I'm not looking for a full-time move."
