Leeds technical director delighted with appointment
Leeds technical director Gwyn Williams has tipped new boss Gary McAllister to continue the good work started by Dennis Wise this season.
Former Whites midfielder McAllister was named boss just hours before the League One encounter following the departure of Wise and assistant manager Dave Bassett earlier this week.
Williams was in charge for the 1-0 defeat at Roots Hall, which took Leeds to three games without a win.
But he is confident the team will bounce back under McAllister, saying: "Gary has the right credentials and he is a Leeds legend.
"He had a taste of it at Coventry where he had to sell players to keep the club from administration, so he understands the situation at Leeds.
"He has the experience and he has got ideas to take the club forward. A shortlist was drawn up of candidates, many people were discussed and approached but in the end everyone was pleased to have got Gary."
Williams also praised outgoing boss Dennis Wise, who was unveiled as executive director at Newcastle.
"He has done a great job to re-establish the club in difficult times. The minus 15 points disappeared, relegation disappeared, mid table disappeared and now there is all to play for," added Williams.
"Dennis has moved on to pastures new but that's football."
