Latics striker places relegation fight as top priority
Emile Heskey has revealed that despite the interest from Fabio Capello his duties with Wigan remain his current No.1 concern.
The new England boss was in the stands at the Riverside Stadium keeping a close eye on Heskey during his side's 1-0 defeat to relegation rivals Middlesbrough.
The former Liverpool front man was heavily involved in the action and came close to snatching a point for the Latics with a fine header 12 minutes from time.
"I wasn't aware Mr Capello was at the game until afterwards," Heskey told the
Wigan Evening Post.
"But it's always nice when the England manager watches you.
"Everyone has a clean slate now and the manager has a good pick of young, old and experienced players in the country to choose from.
Lethargic
"At the moment my priority is helping Wigan stay up, and I want to be performing well enough to drag us out of the bottom three.
"If the England call comes, it comes - that would be great. But I have to concentrate on us getting some more points."
Jeremie Aliadiere's strike was the difference between the two sides at the Riverside - with Steve Bruce's men guilty of a poor first-half display.
"We were very lethargic from back to front in the first half and lucky to go in only 1-0 down," said Heskey.
"The gaffer had a few words at half-time and we rallied round and had a good go in the second half.
"We were much better but still couldn't get the point which maybe we deserved."
