United boss delighted with 2-0 win over Portsmouth

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson labelled his side's display against Portsmouth as 'fantastic', while reserving special praise for Cristiano Ronaldo. United dominated Wednesday evening's encounter at Old Trafford and ran out 2-0 winners after two early goals from Ronaldo. The Portuguese winger opened the scoring on 10 minutes, before doubling the home side's lead with a sensational free-kick. The victory saw The Red Devils climb back to the top of the Premier League after Arsenal had leapfrogged them on Tuesday with a win over Newcastle United.

The best

Ferguson was overjoyed at the performance, expressing his belief that it was one their best of the season so far. "I think it was a fantastic performance by us tonight. It was one of the best this season, I think," he told Sky Sports 2. "I cannot believe it finished 2-0. We opened them up so many times. "I am really pleased and it was a good team performance. It is nice to go back [top of the Premier League table]."
Marvellous
Ferguson went on to hail Ronaldo's free-kick, which left Pompey goalkeeper David James with not a prayer on 13 minutes. "It was a marvellous hit and there is no keeper in the world that is going to save that," he continued. "Without doubt that has to be the best [free-kick in the Premier League's history]."
