iPad app moves to universal Sky Sports app

Sky Sports app

Currently, we run two different apps - the Sky Sports app that works on smartphones and iPads, and the Sky Sports for iPad app. From September 3, we will no longer have the Sky Sports for iPad app, so that we can focus our efforts on delivering the best features for people who love sport in one place.

What is happening with the old iPad app?

From September 3, if you have the Sky Sports for iPad app installed on your iPad, when you open it you will receive a message saying that the app is no longer available. It won't exist anymore. In the meantime, if you open it, you will receive a message telling you that from September 3, we're moving home to the newer, better Sky Sports app. If you already have the universal Sky Sports app installed, then the best thing is just to delete the Sky Sports for iPad app and free up some space on your device. If you don't yet have the new app, you will need to download it.

What's in the Sky Sports app?

Everything you would expect from Sky Sports. It's where we publish all of our news stories, video, push notifications, features, analysis, match commentaries and reports and so much more, including live scores and the ever-popular Transfer Centre.

Sky customers can also watch live sport through the app.

You can customise the app with My Sky Sports, so you can load a home page with only the stories that you want.

We've just introduced some video carousels that make it easier for you to find the highlights and clips that you want, and we've also introduced 'one touch' tiles that will take you straight to live action when it's taking place.

How do I get the new app?

Go to the app store and search for Sky Sports. You'll find the new app there, download, and away you go.

*Please note that the Football Score Centre app will still be available to use on your iPad.

I am not a Sky Sports customer though - can I still have the app?

Absolutely! It's free to use and we would love you to use it. It's full of news, analysis, features and interviews that are available to everyone. Some features, such as watching Sky Sports live channels and Formula 1 Race Control, are for subscribers only, but there's loads in there for non-subscribers to enjoy.

Do I need a Sky ID to use the app?

No. You can access most of what's in the app without a Sky ID. However, with a Sky ID you will be able to personalise the app to create your own 'My Sky Sports' section, in which you can select from a variety of sports, teams, experts and stars. This will give you your own tailored Sky Sports home page.

Having a Sky ID will also allow you to view Premier League clips and highlights in the app.

I'm a Sky Sports customer with the Sky Sports app. Will I be logged in automatically?

Not the first time you launch the app, but you'll stay logged in each time you open it. It's really simple to log in using your Sky username and password and it means you can watch Sky Sports channels.

I can't remember my Sky Sports log-in. How do l find it?

Just follow the 'Forgotten username or password?' links on the log-in prompt to retrieve or reset your details.

I love F1 and I want to see Race Control - what's happening to that?

We will be moving the home of Race Control to our newer, better universal Sky Sports app, which works on all devices.

So will Race Control still exist?

Yes. Race Control will still be available on both smartphones and tablets - as well as on your TV screens via the Red Button. But to access Race Control on Digital devices, users will need to download the universal Sky Sports app.
