Magpies boss happy despite late leveller
Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan believes his side are improving despite letting a lead slip late on at home to Middlesbrough.
Michael Owen's header on the hour mark put The Magpies in front, but Robert Huth's late header snatched a fully-deserved point for Boro.
Newcastle are yet to win from Keegan's three Premier League games since his return, although he feels their display against Boro was their best to date.
"I think it's definitely the best full 90 we've put on," he told
Sky Sports. "We just got a bit tired at the end. We're short on numbers and we've had a lot of games.
Pleased
"I'm very pleased with the spirit here. There's nothing wrong with that. The crowd were magnificent as well and were our 12th man at the end.
"Tremendous credit to both sets of players, plenty of energy, plenty of effort, probably a little bit short of composure at times, but that's derby matches."
Keegan was pleased Owen ended his Premier League goal drought with a goal in the game.
"He deserves a goal. He's been tremendous in the games I've been here. He worked very, very hard, but we haven't provided him with anything," he continued.
"You could say today it was a quarter-chance, but it's the type he's lived off and will continue to, so I'm pleased for him, but I would have liked it to be the winning goal."
