Van Basten, who is set to lead Holland at the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland in the summer before stepping down, explained that talks are ongoing.
"Last week I had a talk with Ajax. We talked about my thoughts on working there," he said.
"It is early days. I understand there is another candidate. There will be another talk next week."
Davids
Meanwhile, Edgar Davids will serve a two-match ban following his two-footed challenge on Edison Mendez in the 2-0 defeat to PSV Eindhoven.
Davids was handed a straight red card and his suspension came into effect from Sunday's victory over Feyenoord.
