Defender waiting to discover extent of injury
Aston Villa defender Curtis Davies does not expect to be sidelined for long after picking up a knee injury.
Davies had to be substituted in the closing stages of Villa's 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Saturday.
It was another setback for the 22-year-old after he failed to make the final England squad for this week's friendly against Switzerland.
However, Davies is determined to return to action sooner rather than later, as he is eager to make amends for the mistakes he made against Fulham.
He said: "I don't know what happened. I was running back from a corner and, as I stopped, I just felt my knee. Every time when I tried to straighten it out after that it was hurting.
"I thought I might be able to run it off but I looked at the bench and thought they might be better getting someone else on for the last three minutes.
"I didn't want to be at fault for another goal.
"It is sore at the moment but it does not look too serious. I will just have to see what the physios have to say."
Agbonlahor hope
Gabriel Agbonlahor was forced to pull out of the England squad with a hamstring injury but Davies believes his Villa team-mate could be fit for Saturday's match against Newcastle.
He said: "It is a big blow for Gabby as regards England but I don't think it is anything too serious, just a strain.
"If he had played on he might have hurt it more. We are hoping that he will be all right for the weekend, but you never know.
"He has to have some treatment and we will see what the physios say from there."
