Midfielder likened to Makelele

Ghana coach Claude Le Roy feels midfield sensation Anthony Annan could be the new Claude Makelele. The Start midfielder has caught the eye of a number of clubs during the Africa Cup of Nations. Chelsea star Michael Essien is reported to have recommended him to his club and Le Roy has big hopes for the 21-year-old. ''He showed he's got skills, it was necessary to show that, it unfortunate for us he's playing in the Second Division in Norway,'' Le Roy told the media. ''With his potential he can play anywhere, in term of his skill, tactics, in terms of reading of the game, he's very close to Claude Makelele. He has the same qualities.''

Career

Le Roy admits he has followed Annan closely throughout his career. ''The first time I saw him he was playing on the right for Hearts of Oak. I was more than impressed by him and then he disappeared like it sometimes happen in Ghana and I wanted to see him one more time and I heard he was in Norway," he said. ''He is like Makelele at the beginning of his career, and I think that he's very, very close in terms of quality, to these players.''
