Schust the job

Bernd Schuster might be here to stay, but Guillem Balague says Real Madrid may drop points again.

Our Spanish football expert Guillem Balague looks ahead to another weekend of live La Liga action on Sky Sports and he answers your email.

Murcia v Villarreal

Arrigo Sacchi reckons that Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi is going to become one of the top five players in Europe. That's a lot to ask of him, but it's clear he's more than just a quick goalscorer. He's got clever movement, gets on really well with Nihat Kahveci and he creates goals as well as scoring them. He works really hard when he loses the ball and is the type of player that managers love, so this will be a good chance to see him against a Murcia side fighting relegation. Murcia are playing in the least aesthetically pleasing way. They work really hard and there's nothing spectacular or skilful about their football. All the football will be played by Villarreal, who will be fighting with Atletico Madrid, Espanyol and Sevilla for two places in the Champions League.

Sevilla v Barcelona

This is going to be an interesting one after Barcelona's late win against Osasuna, with the winner coming with two-and-a-half minutes to go. They have only scored four goals in the last six games and by making the football more direct and strengthening their defensive structure after they've scored, they feel it's very difficult for them to concede. When all of that comes together, Barcelona will feel they are on the right track. It's a different style to the one that made them so successful three seasons ago, but it's certainly one that is giving them success in the short-term. It means Xavi will be on the bench sometimes, they will try to use the runs of Thierry Henry and everybody has to work harder defending. Sevilla, on the other hand, are still without Fredi Kanoute, Arouna Kone and Seydou Keita, but they are an improving team. They will be fighting for the top four, but this match is probably a little bit too early for them. They are still inconsistent away, but at home they are a threat so I'm very uncertain about this one. I think they will both be happy with a draw, but expect fireworks because they will both be desperate for the three points.

Real Madrid v Valladolid

Jose Mendilibar, the coach of Valladolid, has won everybody's hearts at the club because he could easily moved to a bigger side in the near future. But Valladolid renewed his contract while they were going through a bad patch and he plans to respect that three-year deal. The club were saying it was a project there and that's why they were happy to keep the coach, even when things were going wrong. He got rid of all the foreigners in the line-up, which is something new for Spanish football in recent years, and he used Spanish players. Since he did that about seven or eight games ago, things have drastically improved and the team is enjoying itself. They made it really difficult for Real Madrid the first time these two teams met and I'm looking forward to seeing this one because it could be a game where Real drop points at home for the first time.

Valencia v Real Betis

It has been an interesting couple of weeks for Valencia and for the three players frozen out of the squad by Ronald Koeman. Miguel Angulo was close to signing for Manchester City, David Albelda had offers to go out on loan and Santiago Canizares could have gone somewhere else if he'd wanted to. But the three of them decided that Ronald Koeman was probably going to go soon, so they stayed. But instead Koeman took the team to the next round of the Copa del Rey and picked up his first win in 10 with David Villa scoring again. So they are going to have to stay there until the end of the season by the looks of it. We all hope Valencia improve because it's a club with a winning mentality and when they are on form they can challenge anybody. Let's see if the victory at the weekend means a return to good form. Guillem answers your email...

Hey Guillem, Love your articles about the latest news from La Liga and more specifically your evaluations of Arsenal's Carlos Vela. I'd love to know what happened to Luis Enrique since his playing days. I've always loved Enrique but he seems to have disappeared from football! Hung, Gooner GUILLEM REPLIES: Luis Enrique was close to becoming the Barcelona B coach and he is trying to get into management again, maybe starting with young teams or B teams. He was going to be part of the Josep Guardiola team that is in charge of Barcelona B now, but personal differences meant he couldn't do that. He has been running marathons and has been doing quite well and he has also been doing extreme sports - which is typical of his personality - but I think we will see him in management again at some point. Hi Guillem, after seeing Real Madrid lose to a very good Almeria side, who, in all honesty, made Real look pathetic, how would you rate their chances in the Champions League? I can't see them getting past teams like Manchester Utd or even Liverpool after watching the Almeria game and even witnessing Villarreal almost coming away with a draw. It seems the team can't perform after realising its very good form. Do you think Real will focus to get a double or throw away La Liga and duck out the Champions League? Also who do you think will come and go (including the manager) in the summer after seeing who is and isn't playing? Thanks, Regards, Chris GUILLEM REPLIES: Wow. That's a really harsh statement. Real Madrid lost to Almeria because they are a very clever side that worked really hard to keep the defensive line close to the midfield and that line was close to the forwards. They moved up and down like an accordion! They were good with their set-piece strategies and scored from one of them and, as I predicted last week, an Almeria win could easily have happened. But Real Madrid know the way to get the championship and that is what they want. They also want the Champions League, but their priority is the league again. To do that they have to work much harder and have a better attitude. Bernd Schuster said it was a defeat they could handle because it will wake everybody up. Who will stay and go? Schuster is there to stay for a few year, Javier Saviola will probably go along with Christoph Metzelder. Fabio Cannavaro has said it could be the end of his Real career and he could go back to Italy. But it's very early for all of that. They will have to look for a replacement for Ruud van Nistelrooy and they like Didier Drogba, but again it is too early to say. They have a dream of signing Cristiano Ronaldo, but Manchester United send messages all the time saying they just want him to stay. I read one of your replies and you mentioned that "Valencia is a team that has so much that needs changing", what do you mean by that? Does the team need to transfer some of their players? If so, who and for what reason? Thank you for your time and I'll continue reading your columns, SG GUILLEM REPLIES: They need to change things at the top basically. If you change the chairman - who is also the main shareholder so that won't be easy to do - then things may change for the better. When the chairman takes the club to a new stadium and all the benefits that that will bring, then he may go. But until that time he will stay and in the meantime Valencia will struggle. He's a man without clear direction. One day he has Quique Sanchez Flores as the coach and the next day he brings in a completely different man in Ronald Koeman. He keeps changing the directors of football too. The last one, Miguel Angel Ruiz, is going to go too so they will end up with another one - the seventh in four years - and it will be another change of direction. The attitude of the coach needs to change as well. He's not the only one to blame, but he has come in with the wrong attitude and has taken decisions following directions from the top rather than making footballing decisions. He needs to stop experimenting as well. He will soon start doing that because he knows the squad better than when he came in. Valencia also need to do a little bit of recycling and they need to do it in the right way - not by signing Manuel Fernandes for instance or Nikola Zigic because that's not the way forward, but instead they need to get players in positions where they are weak. That includes the wide positions in defence and midfield. Plus they need a striker and possibly centre-backs too. So there is a lot to do at all levels. Do you agree with Guillem?
