Valeri Bojinov scored for Manchester City reserves as he made his return from a serious knee injury on Monday.
The Bulgarian joined City last summer but had to be replaced just seven minutes into the 1-0 victory over Manchester United in August.
It was revealed after the match that he had damaged his cruciate ligament and was facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
He has recently resumed training and came on for the final 26 minutes of the clash with Newcastle reserves.
The striker replaced Felipe Caicedo, who made a brief appearance in Sunday's Manchester derby, and quickly made an impact as he scored from Emile Mpenza's cross to rescue a 1-1 draw for City.
Michael Johnson also started the match after recovering from a niggling abdominal problem that has kept him out since the Carling Cup defeat to Tottenham in December.
City's next Premier League match is not until 25th February against Everton and both Johnson and Bojinov could come into contention for selection if they continue to build up their fitness over the next couple of weeks.
