Totti - Refs afraid of Inter

Francesco Totti believes Internazionale are benefiting from a number of dubious refereeing decisions.

Golden boy angered by leaders luck

Francesco Totti believes Serie A leaders Internazionale are benefiting from a number of dubious refereeing decisions. The latest hint of controversy surrounding the league leaders came during their 2-0 win over Catania on Sunday - with the first goal later proving to be clearly offside. This latest incident follows two contentious penalty decisions awarded in Roberto Mancini's side's favour during January. "I don't want to attack Inter because I don't think the club has anything to do with it and because they have good players who are winning on the pitch," Totti told Sky Italia. "But there's definitely something going on. Something in the sense that they're having a little helping hand. "I think there's a little bit of psychological pressure on everyone because they're afraid of Inter at the moment.

Courage

"If the referees had the courage and loyalty to say what they see, it would be easier (for us). But they're denying the facts." Although Totti appears to be suggesting that the referees are not blatantly cheating, he insists that the top teams always get the luck when it comes to game-changing decisions. He said: "Unfortunately it's always existed, it's a part of football. Before it was Juve and now it's Inter." Juventus were demoted to Serie B two seasons ago after a match-fixing scandal - however the Italy international does not believe Inter are involved in any such corruption. "I don't think Inter would have done what Juve did. Inter are winning on the pitch," Totti said. "And referees can make mistakes because it's not easy to manage a game for 90 minutes and not make a single mistake."
