Surgeon happy after knee op

Knee specialist Gerard Saillant was pleased following Ronaldo's knee operation in Paris on Thursday. The three-times World Player of the Year ruptured a ligament in his left knee on Wednesday and was treated at the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital in the French capital. Saillant told Italian press: "The operation lasted around two hours and took place without any particular problems. "He'll come back but it depends on what he wants to do with the rest of his career, whether he wants to continue for a certain number of years or if he wants to end his career quite soon.

Weakened

"I think that depends on him, on his willingness to continue to work hard and to make the sacrifices necessary to come back, realising that it is more difficult at 31 than at 20." Saillant, who operated on Ronaldo in both 1999 and 2000, added: "It seems it's the same injury requiring a number of months recovery time. "A very important tendon of his knee is completely torn and it needs to be repaired and strengthened because it has been greatly weakened." Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti refused to call time on Ronaldo's career. "We're all very sorry and worried about what happened to Ronaldo, I don't want to say it's the end of his career because only time can decide whether it is or not," he said.
