Defender keen to continue proving Black Cats boss wrong
Greg Halford is keen to continue proving Sunderland manager Roy Keane wrong during his loan spell with Charlton.
The defender joined Charlton in January, after failing to make an impact at the Stadium of Light, and he has gone on to impress for the Addicks.
Halford joined Sunderland for £2.5million last summer after a five-month stint with Reading, but he has been given limited opportunities under Keane.
And while Halford has accused Keane of 'changing his story' before sending him out on loan, the full-back is now delighted to have the opportunity to play as he helps Charlton in their pursuit of a place in the Premier League.
Quick buck
"It is great to be playing again. It's the reason I came down here (Charlton)," Halford told
The Sun.
"I did not get too many chances at Sunderland and it has been more than a year since I played regular football. I am loving it.
"I didn't really want to move from Reading. But they made a quick buck and I was off.
"Yet it was more frustrating at Sunderland. I made a few mistakes and got punished. When you make mistakes in a team managed by Roy Keane, you don't get many chances.
Positive
"Roy Keane changed his story a few times. He said I was limited in chances and I felt, if I had a chance, I would turn it around. I then turned down a couple of teams to go out on loan.
"He then said he was disappointed and I wouldn't get an opportunity at all. Charlton came in and were the only Championship side I would go to.
"It was lucky I have an opportunity here (Charlton). Come the end of the season whether I go back to Sunderland or stay here, it will be positive."
