Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood admits he is unhappy with his current super-sub role, but knows it is up to him to force his way into the first team.
The former Nottingham Forest and West Ham striker has found himself behind the likes of Gabriel Agbonlahor and John Carew this season, but played an inspirational role in Villa's brilliant second-half performance in the 4-1 win over Newcastle.
And, although he is content to wait his turn, he is eager to establish himself in Martin O'Neill's first-choice starting line-up.
"We want to be up there in the top four or top six and my job is to go out there and play my part, whether that's off the bench or starting games," he told the club's official website.
"I want to play my part and obviously I'd rather not be known as 'super-sub' or anything like that. I want to start the games, but I don't make the choices.
"Martin picks the team and, wherever he puts me, I'll be happy to be a part of it.
"It's hard to take when you're not playing, but I'm experienced enough now to take it as it comes. There's no point getting irate about it.
"Once you go out on that pitch, you have to show what you can do."
