Ajax midfielder Edgar Davids has indicated he is likely to hang up his boots at the end of the season.
The 34-year-old believes the time is coming for him to announce his retirement.
"It might be that this is my last season. It's more than 50 per cent certain," Davids told
RTL.
Asked if he would be tempted to continue under new coach Marco van Basten in the next campaign, Davids said: "I don't think so. Everything has to come to an end."
Davids had a much-publicised row with Van Basten in 2006 when the Holland coach left the midfielder out of the squad for the World Cup finals in Germany, but the former Tottenham man insists his decision to retire has nothing to do with his imminent arrival at the Amsterdam ArenA.
"If Van Basten is the coach who can lead Ajax back to success, I'll be the first to shout with joy. But whether he's left the past behind him I don't know," concluded Davids.
