Nakamura urges Celtic focus

Japan international not thinking about Rangers

Shunsuke Nakamura has told his Celtic team-mates to concentrate on winning matches rather than worry about Rangers dropping points. Celtic have won their last eight Scottish Premier League matches but still trail Rangers by four points. Gordon Strachan's side can still overtake Rangers without help from elsewhere, as there are three Old Firm games left to be played. "We just need to play our football and we just need to concentrate on what we should be doing," Nakamura urged. "We need to look to win the games rather than waiting for other teams to get beat. That's what we have to concentrate on."

Award

Nakamura is unlikely to be named PFA Scotland Player of the Year for a second successive season after missing ten weeks of the season with a knee injury, but he believes there are a number of other Celtic players who could take the prize. The Japan international could win the award next season after pledging his future to Celtic. "If Aiden (McGeady) plays the way he is just now he has got a great chance," said Nakamura. "I think Artur Boruc and Stephen McManus are also playing really well." "I'll be here until (chief executive) Peter (Lawwell) and Strachan say I don't want you any more."
