Las Palmas have appointed former Liverpool assistant coach Pako Ayestaran as manager.

Ayestaran replaces Manolo Marquez, who resigned on Tuesday less than three months after taking charge of the team.

Ayestaran, who returns to management after being sacked by Valencia last season, inherits a side struggling in 15th place in La Liga.

The 54-year-old spent 11 years as assistant coach to Rafa Benitez and was part of the Spaniard's backroom staff during his time in charge of Liverpool.
