Assistant manager rejects criticism

Doncaster Rovers assistant manager Richard O'Kelly has told skysports.com that his side will continue to play in the manner that has served them well so far this season. Doncaster have earned praise for their attractive style this season and their passing game has taken them to second in League One. They missed the chance to put pressure on leaders Swansea as they were beaten 1-0 by Brighton at the weekend, but O'Kelly has defended the players. "If you're going to go and watch a game of football you want to be entertained basically," O'Kelly told skysports.com. "There's certain things in the game that you need to do and we know that we're not naive to think that you haven't but both of us (O'Kelly and manager Sean O'Driscoll) have always believed in how the game should be played; by passing the ball around.

Arsenal comparisons

"It can be long it can be short but there's a certain way in which the game should be played and hopefully that comes across in the way the team plays." O'Kelly admits that other sides are learning how to play against Doncaster. He said: "In a way it has sometimes caused us a few problems. We were live on Sky and a couple of managers who were pundits on the day looked at us and said that 'they're the Arsenal of the first division, but if you get after them you can cause them problems. "Over the last four or five games, the away games in particular, teams have got after us and we've coped with everything and mostly come out with positive results. "To get that result you have to have those battling qualities about you and it's something that the players have always had and I don't think it's been appreciated at times because of the type of football we play."
