Black Cats boss admires former team-mate
Sunderland manager Roy Keane has admitted that he would be interested in bringing Diego Forlan to the Stadium of Light.
The Uruguayan is currently with Primera Division side Atletico Madrid, but has found himself linked with a host of Premier League clubs just recently.
He endured a largely unsuccessful two-and-a-half year spell with Manchester United, but has rediscovered his goalscoring touch since moving to Spain and is now generally regarded as one of the most lethal strikers in Europe.
Keane, who played with Forlan during his time at Old Trafford, revealed that he has already identified a list of summer targets, but insists that for now he is focusing all of his attention on ensuring that the Black Cats maintain their top-flight status.
Priority
"I think we got linked with Diego last summer as well," he said.
"As much as I think he's a top player, I think the priority for us at the moment is to stay in the Premier League.
"We have a few targets which we'll hopefully bring into the club in the summer, but obviously that will all depend on what league we're in.
"But we still believe we will be in the Premier League, and if I was told that Diego was available then maybe I would be interested."
Challenge
Keane also revealed that he expects the battle to beat the drop this season to go right down to the wire.
"We've got eight games left, and it's the same for all teams at the bottom - it's so tight, but I think it will be a brilliant finish for all the teams at the bottom.
"Obviously you want to avoid the drop and it's a challenge to look forward to because we're in there with a chance, and like the other teams near the bottom we feel we've got as good a chance as anybody."
