Liverpool midfielder Harry Kewell has been given a boost after being handed the captain's armband for Australia's friendly against Singapore on Saturday.
The 29-year-old's future at Anfield is subject to speculation and he has welcomed the opportunity to captain his country in their final warm-up match before next week's crunch World Cup qualifier in China with open arms.
"It always is [an honour] to lead your country out. I'm going to take it from there and see what happens," Kewell said.
"Obviously I'm going through a difficult time at the moment and to play this game is very important for me and I'm really looking forward to it."
Capable
Kewell's future at Anfield is uncertain as he is out of contract in the summer and was allowed to travel to Asia rather than stay in England for this weekend's Premier League clash with Manchester United.
Asked whether or not he feels that he has anything more to prove to his club or manager Rafael Benitez, he responded: "Not really.
"They know what I'm capable of doing. I just need to play matches and so I'm out here to play."
