Rangers midfielder insists he did not dive

Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson has defended himself against accusations of diving in the 1-0 victory over Celtic. Thomson was Rangers' match-winner as he stroked in a cool finish just before half-time to take Walter Smith's side six points clear at the top. However, he was later caught up in controversy after injuring his left leg in an incident involving Celtic's Georgios Samaras. Replays suggested that Thompson had begun to fall before any contact had been made, and Celtic reacted furiously to the incident. "To call me a cheat and a diver is outrageous because that kind of thing is just not in my nature," Thomson told the Daily Record. "I've had a look at the incident again on TV and I can see why people are saying I was trying to win a foul. But that's not cheating. "I had beaten Samaras with my first touch and I knew he was going to make contact with me. What was I supposed to do - jump out of the way?" Thomson also claimed that Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc would 'be disappointed with himself' for the way he reacted. Thomson was substituted but he could be fit for Thursday's Uefa Cup quarter-final first leg against Sporting Lisbon.
